One more thing...

I am a huge fan of the Apple computer company.  When I was a kid, my best friend Ven had an Apple II in his home and I would always look forward to getting my hands on it. Once I began recording my own music I realized I would never buy another non-Macintosh computer again.

In the past 5 years, I've become more and more intrigued by the company and it's marketing strategies.  They have amazing designs, beautiful retail stores, unifying hardware/software concepts, and remarkably intuitive user interfaces.  However, none of us would know about this company if it weren't for Steve Jobs.

Not only is he responsible for creating the company itself, he is also the face of the company, responsible for introducing new products and software at keynote presentations over the last 27 years.  He is, in my opinion, the greatest salesman in the world.

His presentation keynote speeches are the equivilant to Christmas morning for many an Apple fanboy (including myself). With an upcoming Apple event, rumored to be the unveiling of an Apple tablet, right around the corner, here are a few of my favorite Jobs moments from years past.

The Apple Computer: 1983

The iMac: 1998

The iBook: 1999

The iPod: 2001

The iPhone: 2007

The Macbook Air: 2008

My HD Wishlist part 1: Star Wars

If you don't know by now, I'm a huge fan of Blu-ray movies. Nothing compares to seeing one of your favorite films in glorious 1080p! Although many of my favorite movies have already been released on Blu-ray in it's first 4 years (Amadeus, Serenity, Ghostbusters, Office Space) many have not.  In this ongoing series, I will be highlighting all of my very favorite films which, for one reason or another, have not seen an HD release.

Let's start with the obvious:

The Star Wars Saga

Oh, the pure joy that will fill my heart when I see Luke standing before the twin suns of Tatooine in high-definition... it's enough to make a grown man cry in standard-def!

Seeing as how it took 6 or 7 years after the introduction of DVDs for the original Star Wars trilogy to be released, I imagine the folks at Lucasfilm will play the same game with us when it comes to Blu-ray.  The only official info so far comes from head of Lucasfilm fan relations, Steve Sansweet in a recent interview:

"...Obviously we've been looking at (Blu-ray) for a couple of years and I think one of the questions is when is the market penetration there and these days, will there be a market penetration before everything goes streaming? But we've been looking at an ultimate box set of the Star Wars movies, all six of the movies.  And what special features would be.  And clearly these days, if you did an ultimate box set and didn't do it in HD, Blu-ray, it just wouldn't make any sense.  So now it's a matter of thinking okay, we've been thinking about this for a while, we know what kind of assets we want to use, we've done some work in cleaning up things, it's really a matter of making that decision of when's the best time to release it."

Translation:  "It's gonna be a while.  Go buy the DVDs a few more times, suckers!"

I predict we'll see a full saga box set sometime in the next 2 years (probably later than sooner).  Mr. Lucas, if you're reading this, just know that I am being patient and I love you.

George Lucas:  "I know."

Resolutions

This year I have a very reasonable goal as my new year's resolution:  READ MORE BOOKS!

It's pretty simple and it's something I haven't been very good at lately.  I usually have a few nonfiction books at hand at any given time but I never read novels anymore (unless it's Harry Potter).

I have already begun reading a classic that for some reason have never read up until now.  The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.  So far it is blowing my mind.
